On Saturday, the French Ministry of Culture announced the death of the British-French actress and singer, Jane Birkin, at the age of 76.

French media reported that Birkin was found dead at her home in Paris, with Le Figaro newspaper reporting that she had suffered from health problems in the past few years that had prevented her from performing and her public appearances had been sparse.

BFMTV said Birkin suffered a mild stroke in 2021, which forced her to cancel shows that year, and she canceled her shows again in March 2023 due to a broken shoulder.

The French radio indicated that the return to the performance in May was postponed, and quoted the singer as saying that she needed more time and promised her fans that she would see them again in the fall.

The late artist was born in London in 1946, and Birkin, who was often described in the French media as "the French's favorite English", was an artistic icon in France, with a career full of successes in acting and singing, as well as an inspiration for fashion designers in the past decades.

Her meeting with singer and composer Serge Ginzbourg, after moving to Paris at the age of twenty, constituted a pivotal stage in her career, as it was the first of a flaming musical and emotional relationship between the two that lasted thirteen years.

Birkin achieved international fame with songs including "Je t'aime, moi non plus" ("Je t'aime, moi non plus"), engraved in the French musical memory, which caused a scandal when it was released in 1969, in addition to "Gene B" in the same year. and "Ex-fan des sixties" (1978).
